چکیده

Previous studies have reported an exaggerated natriuresis in hypertensive man; however, a systematic appraisal of this response in various forms of hypertension has not been made. We measured fractional excretion of sodium (FENa) during a four hour intravenous infusion of 2 liters normal saline in 162 normal subjects and 120 hypertensives. Of these, 13 had primary aldosteronism (ALDO), 19 high renin (HRH), 30 low renin (LRH), and 57 normal renin (NRH) essential hypertension. FENa for normals (1.42%), NRH (1.57%), and HRH (1.46%) was similar. That for LRH (2.56%) and ALDO (4.18%) was elevated compared to the other three subgroups (P < 0.001). Although the four hour FENa during saline infusion was

Behaviour of adrenomedullin during acute and chronic salt loading in normotensive and hypertensive subjects.

1. Responses of adrenomedullin to acute and chronic salt loading were examined in normotensive and hypertensive subjects. 2. In the acute salt load study, isotonic saline (50 ml/kg for 1 h) was intravenously infused into nine normotensive subjects and 11 patients with essential hypertension. Plasma adrenomedullin was higher in hypertensive than in normotensive subjects but was unchanged by sali...

Renal vascular response to sodium loading in sons of hypertensive parents.

Studies of normotensive offspring of hypertensive parents offer the potential to identify inherited abnormalities that contribute to essential hypertension. We compared renal and systemic hemodynamic responses to saline infusion between normotensive sons of two hypertensive parents (SOHT) and sons of two normotensive parents (SONT) selected from the general population of Rochester, Minn. Hemody...

The Influence of Hypertonic Saline Infusions

Renal hemodynamics and the excretion rates of six ions were studied in a group of 24 normotensive and hypertensive subjects during expansion of extracellular fluid volume (ECF) with intravenous infusions of hypertonic saline. In response to the 2.5% saline infusions arterial blood pressure did not change from control values, but glomerular filtration rate increased, and renal vascular resistanc...

Relationship between arterial baroreflex, cardiopulmonary vagal reflex and renal natriuretic response to saline in conscious rabbits.

1. We have previously shown that normotensive rabbits with a genetic impairment in arterial baroreflex sensitivity showed a delayed sodium excretion and failed to increase their renal blood flow in response to a saline infusion that did not alter blood pressure. These renal haemodynamic and excretory abnormalities were abolished by renal denervation. The present study determined the sensitivity...
